Bittersweet BSB debut for SM Racing and Kerr at Donington Park

05 April 2026

The SM Racing team made their ZYN British Superbike Championship debut at Donington Park for the R&G Official Test, with Richard Kerr and the team working together for the first time ahead of their opening season in the series.

Kerr made his debut with the team owned by Sean Meighan as they debuted their new livery featuring a familiar partnership with AMD, combined with a collaboration with Chris Fairburn. However after a positive start, Kerr crashed during the second day at Craner Curves, with the SM Racing Honda Racing UK sustaining significant damage which ended their test prematurely.

Kerr said: “We only managed to get 34 laps under our belt at Donington Park, but we still had a positive test despite some issues. I set my personal best Superbike lap time and the Honda feels great, we just need some more time on it.

“We had an issue on Friday, which the team worked really hard to fix then in the opening session on Saturday. I had a big crash at Craners, luckily, I’m ok, but the bike didn’t fair so well. I am sorry to the team for the damage and hopefully we can regroup and go again at the Oulton test. I’m really happy moving forwards and looking forward to the season.”

Team Owner Sean Meighan commented: “Donington Park provided a challenging first test for us as a team. On the up side, Richard’s first impressions of the BSB spec Honda were incredibly positive; with highs come lows and a fast crash for Richard through Craner Curves brought a premature end to the test. The team worked incredibly well together despite the challenges faced, overall lots of positives and we look forward to the upcoming test at Oulton Park and the season ahead.”
