On this day in 1996, Terry Rymer claimed a sensational race win at Thruxton from the back of the grid for the Old Spice Ducati team.
Rymer had missed qualifying and flew in overnight from the Le Mans 24 Hour race, an error from Niall Mackenzie on the final lap at the Chicane dropped him to third, with Jamie Whitham taking second place.
Rymer was forced to retire from race two as Mackenzie was victorious ahead of Whitham and Ray Stringer on the privateer Sabre Airways Kawasaki.
