Nikki Coates emerged victorious at the end of a frantic 11 lap, three-rider scrap in today’s Main Race.
As the lights turned green, polesitter Barry Burrell got the best start to launch himself into the lead with Bobby Varey close behind and Coates third.
And this was to be the theme of the full race as the leading trio proved to be the class of the field.
Varey hit the front late in the second lap and Coates found his way past Burrell, before putting a move on Varey to go ahead on Lap Four, the pair swapping positions for the next couple of laps while behind, the battle for fourth raged between Bjorn Estment, Josh Corner and Christian Smith.
On the ninth lap, Coates ran a bit wide at Druids and dropped to third behind Burrell but was soon back up to second and then back into the lead.
He led into the final lap and when Varey ran slightly wide at Graham Hill Bend, it gave him a bit of a buffer, but his rival caught him and tried to get into the slipstream at the end of the lap towards the line but couldn’t do it.
Coates won by 0.086sec over Varey as Burrell took third, just 0.197s further back. Corner was fourth, 3.292secs behind with Estment fifth.
