The race starts now for Davey: Todd targets full fitness after Daytona 200 crash

10 March 2026

Davey Todd is facing a race against time to return to fitness after a crash at the Daytona 200 race last weekend, as the 8TEN Racing star begins his recovery.

Todd joined fellow Team Owner Peter Hickman at the annual event competing on the PHR Performance Triumph onboard the Triumph Street Triple 765 RS, but a crash in Qualifying ended his debut appearance at the event, and after undergoing successful surgery he is fully focused on his recovery.

Todd said: “I really wanted to do an update, as Daytona didn’t go super well for me. I only got as far as the first qualifying session. Basically, in the first lap of qualifying, I ended up getting cleaned out by another rider. In America, you are able to ride it back to the pits, so I got it back and it was a bit bent and twisted but the boys worked at it to get it right again. We thought the bike was all spot on, got back on track for the last 10-15 minutes of qualifying and did three laps. Unfortunately then coming out of turn two, due to the previous crash, something in the steering jammed and basically turned me straight into the wall. I tried to jump off it but I couldn’t really get off it properly in time.

“It didn’t end so well as I have broken my left femur and right tib and my right foot, and I also broke my nose. I had surgery on both legs already to have a rod put in my femur and screw my tib back together so we are positive now we are on the mend and making steps to move forward and get healthy again. I am lucky I have Abbie with me, looking after me since the crash and we are taking it day by day and trying to get mended as fast as possible. I have already started standing on the left leg, which I am allowed to do since the surgery.

“I can’t really give an ETA on when I will be back, but I am trying to be back as soon as possible. I am going be working really hard, and a lot of great people have been helping and advising me on what to do to be as fit as possible, as soon as possible. That is where we are at right now and hopefully in the coming days we can get out of hospital, be able to fly home and properly start the rehab. Thank you everyone for your support and hopefully we will be back on the bike soon.”
