The ZYN British Superbike Championship finale at Brands Hatch this weekend will close the 30th anniversary season and to end the celebrations, Steve Hislop’s 2001 MonsterMob Ducati will return to the Grand Prix circuit, for some demonstration laps during the weekend with Stuart Easton.
Only once in the series’ 30 year history has a team celebrated title success in both the British Superbike and British Supersport Championship in the same season and Paul Bird’s PBM Team lifted the BSB title with Hizzy and the Supersport crown with Easton in 2002. A feat that has yet to be repeated.
Hislop claimed the BSB title in 2002, having finished as runner-up in 2001, but tragically lost his life in a helicopter accident a year after becoming champion. The Hawick hero made 155 appearances during his career in the modern BSB era, claiming 24 race wins and a further 44 podium finishes. Double British Supersport champion and BSB race winner Easton will return on track for the first time in a decade, having retired at the end of the 2016 season.
Easton said: “I am really looking forward to Brands Hatch this weekend. To be back on track, riding the Steve Hislop 2001 MonsterMob Ducati will be a treat. It is already taking me back thinking about it - 25 years ago is crazy!
“It seems like another life I had, and a year later, it was a fairy-tale season for Steve and me. We were both from the same Scottish border town and for us to win the British Superbike and Supersport titles as teammates for Paul Birds’ team was something special. Those were fun times for sure and I am looking forward to getting back on track.”
