Scott Redding claimed the final ZYN British Superbike Championship race win at Donington Park as defending champion Kyle Ryde was dramatically forced out of the battle for the podium with a technical problem half-way through the race.
Ryde had an advantage of 78 points going into race three, but that has now been reduced to 53 ahead of the final three title-deciding races at Brands Hatch, where a maximum of 105 points are available.
At the start, Max Cook had grabbed the lead on the AJN Steelstock bimota from Redding and Ryan Vickers with Ryde holding fourth ahead of Bradley Ray.
Ryde was up to third place by the second lap, but Redding was determined to battle back in the final race of the day, making a move on Cook into the Melbourne Loop on lap five.
Redding was gradually building an advantage over Cook with Ryde pushing to reel back in the leading pair, but on lap ten there was drama as the Nitrous Coin Nitrous Competitions Racing rider had a technical problem and was forced out of the race. The DNF was incredibly Ryde’s first non-finish in 89 races, since May 2024 at Oulton Park.
Redding had the edge over Cook for the victory as Vickers again delivered a tenacious performance to return to the podium for Honda Racing UK in third place, with Ray in a distant fourth.
Rory Skinner was fifth after his crash earlier in the day on the leading Cheshire Mouldings Yamaha with Joe Talbot splitting the teammates with Danny Kent and Christian Iddon completing the top eight. Ilya Mikhalchik and Lee Jackson claimed the final positions inside the top ten.
The race was red flagged with one lap remaining when Glenn Irwin crashed heavily at Starkeys. He was assessed and treated at the circuit Medical Centre. He remained conscious and stable throughout his assessment. Due to concern regarding a possible spinal fracture, he was transferred to Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, for further specialist assessment and imaging.
