Glenn Irwin maintained his position ahead of his Bennetts British Superbike Championship rivals after the opening Free Practice session at Oulton Park with the Hager PBM Ducati rider setting a pace just 0.003s adrift of his fastest lap of the R&G Official Test.
Irwin held off a closing Completely Motorbikes Kawasaki of Jason O'Halloran by 0.119s with championship leader Ryan Vickers edging out his OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing teammate Kyle Ryde for third place.
Danny Kent completed the top five as he made steps forward with the McAMS Racing Yamaha with Leon Haslam holding sixth despite a small crash at Brittens. Tommy Bridewell meanwhile was seventh fastest following a technical issue which ended his session prematurely with Christian Iddon, Max Cook and Josh Brookes completing the top ten.
