Kyle Ryde denied Josh Brookes his first Omologato Pole Position of the 2024 Bennetts British Superbike Championship season at Oulton Park, saving his best lap until last to move to the top of the times for OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing by just 0.040s.
Glenn Irwin had set the early pace in Speedy Hire Qualifying and held the edge for Hager PBM Ducati until there were just five minutes remaining and Tommy Bridewell went to the top of the times.
Irwin though didn’t get another chance to try for another lap when a technical issue ruled him out of the session and he was still holding second position when he was forced to watch from the side-lines.
Bridewell held the leading position as he rebounded from his tough day yesterday, when he ended the Free Practice action in 12th place, but with two minutes remaining Brookes fired the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team M 1000 RR ahead with an impressive final sector that saw him take the advantage.
The chequered flag was out and it looked like Brookes might have done enough to hold the position, but Ryde wasn’t finished and he went ahead to displace the double champion from the Omologato Pole Position.
Irwin will start the opening race from the second row in fourth place ahead of the MasterMac Honda pairing of Charlie Nesbitt and Lee Jackson.
Ryan Vickers heads the third row ahead of Leon Haslam and Danny Kent with Christian Iddon completing the top ten as the contenders now get set for the opening race of the Bennetts BSB Showdown.
